THIS EDITION:
MILESTONES
& EVENTS
Since our last eNews quite a few milestones have been achieved:
- Over 50% of the Minor Bridges on the railway line were completed in
August.
- Major Bridges over the Katherine, Edith and Cullen Rivers were completed.
- The Victoria Highway overpass and Stuart Highway overpass near Katherine
have been completed and are open to traffic.
- Production of Ballast exceeded 50% of total requirements during August.
- Overall construction is progressing well and during September exceeded
the 50% mark.
- Clearing of the corridor is well advanced with the Adelaide River
Section completed in September and clearing teams from the North and
South meeting near the Buchanan Highway south of Katherine.
- Delivery of rail from One Steel in Wyhalla reached 50% of project
requirements.
- Rail track has been laid for 33% of the entire route.
- Track was laid over the Katherine River Bridge to reach the ballast
quarry north of town.
The next
major event will be the joining of the two tracks between Katherine and
Tennant Creek. It is expected that this will take place in mid December
so please keep an eye on our website for updated information.
CONSTRUCTION
HIGHLIGHTS
The
Construction Progress Map has been
updated recently to give an overall picture of where ADrail are progressing
A few high-lights
are:
Katherine
On
17 September the tracklayer headed north laying track across the new Katherine
River Railway Bridge to the ballast quarry 20 kms north of town. More

Locomotive
Naming Ceremonies were held in Katherine and Tennant Creek in September
with the participation of Traditional Owners.
ADrail recently
held an open day to give the people in the Katherine area a close up look
at construction and tracklaying.
The latest
employment figures show 276 Katherine residents are directly employed
on the construction of the railway.
245km of
track is now complete to the south of the town and 28 kms north.
Alice
Springs
Over
81,000 tonnes of rail has so far been delivered to the Roe Creek Logistic
Centre by rail from OneSteel Whyalla SA then trucked north to Tennant
Creek and Katherine.
The latest
employment figures show 60 Alice Springs residents are directly employed
on the project.
Tennant
Creek
Latest
employment figures show 227 Tennant Creek residents are directly employed
on the construction of the railway.
950,000 tonnes
of ballast has been produced locally.
Darwin
Bridge
piling is now completed on the largest bridge, the Elizabeth River Bridge
and bridge girders are in the process of being placed, with over 50% complete.
Bulk earthworks
have been completed on the railway causeway and container terminal site
at East Arm Wharf at the Port of Darwin.
98% of clearing
and 84% of earthworks are now complete between Darwin and Adelaide River.
Refurbishment
of the Fergusson River Railway Bridge from the original North Australian
Railway has been completed.
Latest employment
figures show 353 Darwin residents are directly employed on the construction
of the railway.
South
Australia
At
present 147 South Australians are directly employed on the construction
of the railway.
South Australia
industry has so far been awarded contracts valued at over $311 million.
PHOTO
LIBRARY
The
photo library has been and will continue
to be updated with photos of construction as well as recent events, including
the crossing of the Katherine River Bridge, ADrail Open Day and Locomotive
Naming Ceremonies.
We have had
a few requests for video footage of tracklaying and construction and we
are currently looking into the possibility of making short movie clips
available from our website.
LATEST
PROGRESS MAP AVAILABLE NOW
The
latest progress map is now available.
Since our last eNews we have updated our progress map pages as some people
were having difficulty accessing the map with Acrobat. There are now several
options to view and print the map, but if you are still having difficulty,
